Archiving Test Data — Digital or Hard Copy?

How long do you need to keep your test data? More importantly, will it be available and readable when you need it? In medical, security, and other industries, archiving test data is a legal requirement to chase problems that may arise in the field. These days, almost all such data is stored on some form of disk rather than the much bulkier paper. But disk formats change frequently and today's (or tomorrow's) computers may not be able to read your data from even a few years ago. Test & Measurement World columnist Martin Rowe looks at this increasingly sticky question.
